How to Be Confident on Camera When Doing a Live Stream

“I want to do live streaming but I’m not confident!”

“I can’t do that. Only experts can speak to a camera without fainting!”

“People will judge me. I’m not pretty enough to be on camera!”

“I’m not interesting enough!”

These are just some of the reasons that we hear whenever we talk about live streaming and why people can’t seem to get the courage to do it. You see, a lot of people have great ideas and a lot of them actually want to live stream BUT THEY JUST CAN’T DO IT.

Well, we think otherwise so we’re here to teach you how to be more confident when you’re in front of the camera. If you follow these steps, you will surely be the master of your craft and be able to live stream confidently.

Knowledge is KEY

When you start your live stream, there are a few things that you need to know. First, you need to know what your topic is. You need to do your research and make sure that you have the basic information of the things that you want to talk about. Then you need to add a few more details to make your live stream more interesting.

You also need to lay out the flow of your talk and this is where the Agenda feature of BeLive comes in. When you use the Agenda feature, you have an outline so you will never be lost when doing your live stream.

Second, you need to know who your audience is. This matters because a good live streamer needs to know their demographics so they know who they are talking to as well as the tone and language to use. Sometimes, the tone of voice and how you speak can make or break things for you.

Believe so you can Be Live

No one will believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself so make sure that when you hit that live button, you believe in what you are saying, you believe in yourself, and you believe in what you are preaching to the crowd.

This becomes easier when you are honest in your stream and not pretending to be someone else. Remember that it’s harder to remember a character than it is to just be yourself.

Yes, there may be people who will not like you but that just means that they are not your target market. The right audience will come along and they will stay. These are the people you want as part of your community, those who accept you for you and loves watching you as yourself.

Remember that you are already doing better than a lot of people simply because you took action over something that a lot of people can only think or dream of doing. You’ve taken that first step. Move on to the next.

Googly Friends

If facing a camera and lights sounds like the perfect nightmare for you, then googly eyes can be your best friend. As Kate, our social media manager suggested one time, you can tape googly eyes on your web camera to give it a “friendlier” face and make it less daunting.

It will now feel like you are simply speaking to a friend rather than an inanimate object. You can also tape over the part of your laptop that shows the viewer count if the number unnerve you. After all, ignorance is bliss so if you can’t see that there are over 1,000+ people who saw you sneeze on air, it wouldn’t matter.

The delete button exists.

When all else fails and you feel like you just had the worst live stream in history, always remember that the delete button exists and you are in control. You can choose to not post the video so no one else has to see it.

You have a reprieve and a chance to do over so grab it. Make mistakes because that is how you will learn. Breathe and let go. Have fun, let your hair down, and enjoy what you are doing. Get excited because every time you hit that live button, new things are coming your way and live streaming is opening doors for you.

Remember that the most important step is to START. Nothing happens if you don’t start.
